Quick Installation Guide

Follow these steps to get started with OpenCore Legacy Patcher

Download & Install OCLP

Download the GUI Application or PKG Installer from above. Open the downloaded file and move OpenCore-Patcher.app to your Applications folder. Launch the application to begin.

  • Download your preferred version
  • Move to Applications folder
  • Launch OpenCore-Patcher.app
  • Grant necessary permissions if prompted

Build OpenCore EFI

Click "Build and Install OpenCore" in the main menu. The patcher will automatically detect your Mac model and build a customized OpenCore configuration with appropriate patches and kexts.

  • Click "Build and Install OpenCore"
  • Review detected Mac model
  • Customize settings if needed
  • Wait for build process to complete

Create Bootable USB

Download macOS installer from within OCLP or use an existing installer. Create a bootable USB drive (16GB+) and install the OpenCore EFI to the USB's EFI partition.

  • Prepare 16GB+ USB drive
  • Download macOS installer via OCLP
  • Create bootable installer
  • Install OpenCore to USB EFI partition

Install macOS

Boot from the USB drive (hold Option/Alt at startup), select "Install macOS" from the OpenCore boot picker, and proceed with the standard macOS installation process.

  • Restart and hold Option/Alt key
  • Select USB drive with OpenCore
  • Choose "Install macOS" from boot picker
  • Follow standard macOS installation

Post-Install Root Patching

After macOS installation completes, boot into your new system and run OpenCore-Patcher again. Click "Post-Install Root Patch" to restore Wi-Fi, graphics acceleration, and other hardware functionality.

  • Boot into newly installed macOS
  • Launch OpenCore-Patcher
  • Click "Post-Install Root Patch"
  • Reboot when patching completes
